What is e-Learning?

The NZ Tertiary e-Learning Framework describes e-learning as ...

"Learning that is enabled or supported by the use of digital tools and content. It typically involves some form of interactivity, which may include online interaction between the learner and their teacher or peers. e-Learning opportunities are usually accessed via the internet, though other technologies such as CD-ROM are also used in e-learning.”

e-Learning provides teachers and learners with new tools for interacting with each other and with the subject matter. In New Zealand, e-Learning is already part of the fabric of education, at all levels from primary to tertiary, and the government is committed to extending its use more widely.

One thing e-learning is not...

At an administrative level, organisations are using the Internet to enable students to find out about courses and programmes online, enroll students, keep them informed of activities and dates, run assessments and advise students of results. But this is not really e-learning and is not dealt with by Nga Kiwai Kete.
