Why would we use e-learning?
How could we use e-learning?
Are we ready?

How do we measure the effect of what we have done?

Evaluation is a critical part of all educational processes, and implementing e-Learning is no exception.

Evaluation is part of an improvement cycle which begins with planning, moves through evaluation, and goes on to improvement and enhancement and then back to planning again.
The first step is to decide why you are carrying out the evaluation.
It could be, for example:
  • to gather evidence on the success or otherwise of teaching in a particular course
  • part of your quality improvement process
  • to find out what students think
Once you know the purpose of the evaluation, consider your objectives. What exactly is it that you want to measure? Some examples might be:
  • How well are our support systems working?
  • How do our student assessments compare with previous years?
Once you have planned and carried out your evaluation, there will probably changes to be made and your evaluation cycle will start over again.
