Supporting teachers

Teachers may need some of the same types of support that students need. In particular, teachers will often need help with the technical aspects. Professional development workshops involving all staff are very helpful - but you may also need to provide some one-to-one coaching or other support to help individual teachers.

Moana

Moana: we got Nga Kiwai Kete's team to come in and run a professional development workshop for us. They set up a sample course on Moodle, which we could access after the workshop too. They focused on the teaching aspects which was great.

All the staff took part - it was good for us all to be involved. Afterwards, Manu helped some of the others to put activities online. We made sure his teaching load was a little lower until the end of the year!

We've also enrolled a couple of the teachers in a qualification - it's important that we develop skills in the area of e-learning design as we move more seriously into e-learning.

Remember that the teacher's role can be quite different in an e-learning environment, so some teachers will need support as they come to grips with this new role!
